Step 1 – Research
Understand the Context: Research the country’s demographics and seek out local peace building organizations currently working on the ground.
Step 2 – Identify
Support the Visionaries and Pioneers: Identify local youth leaders working towards peace building and conflict transformation with a focus on engaging youth.
Nepal Unites commits to work with these leaders and the movements they lead because they embody our Four Pillars: Non-Violence, Reconciliation & Conflict Transformation, Grassroots Movements, and Youth-leadership and Character. We then work alongside to help them build their capacity for a broader, nationwide impact.
Step 3 – Alliance
Don’t Reinvent the Wheel: Learn from Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and local movements engaging youth, and help them connect with each other. This ensures efforts will not be duplicated.
Step 4 –Launch
Engage Youth of Every Tribe, Tongue, and Faith & Province: Host a Future Leaders Conference to lay the foundation for a national level network of youth leaders with a common vision for peace, reconciliation, equality, and grassroots solutions for the nation’s pressing challenges. This conference seeks to bring together youth leaders from every province of the country, representing the major tribes, ethnicities, and religious groups.
Step 5 – Expand
Grow Wide: Build on the national network to have strategic operations in each region and province of the nation:
- Establish clubs in every region
- Conduct a national tour with key leaders
- Conduct events in every region organized by students who were at the conference.
These initiatives seek to expand the message of the movement, recruit more youth for peace and nation-building operations, and strengthen resistance against recruitment towards extremist, violence and detrimental activities.
Step 6 – Establish
Grow Deep: Establish regional offices and reconciliation centers with staff ready to deploy as needed in the work on peace building, reconciliation & community development. These centers will also provide education, vocational training, sport and business opportunities for youth in the community, who have made a pledge to remain non-violent and constructive ambassadors of the movement.
Step 7 – Sustain
If you want to go the Distance, Pay Your Own Way: Create for-profit companies and social enterprises committed to support the initiatives of the movement. These companies are expected to fully fund the movement and thus free it from the dependence on donor organizations, while also creating jobs for members of the movement.
